MKS Architecture completely surpassed our expectations on a large design/build project on the water in Arnold, MD. While we knew which builder we wanted to use, we were hesitant to use the architect we had used on a previous project because that architect had overpromised and underdelivered.

Our builder recommended MKS Architecture and we are so happy that he did. We’ve worked through a few remodels in the past, and often the hardest part of the project is getting the design to incorporate what’s truly important to you. Sometimes, you don’t even know what those important things are when you start the design process!

Melanie and Paul of MKS met with us at our existing home to gauge what worked well and what didn’t, and then met with us on site at the new house to gauge conditions and listen to our expectations. They were able to elicit thoughts and ideas that really helped them create some amazing conceptual designs that we could use as a starting point for our new home.

It greatly impressed us that Melanie and Paul picked up on our desire to take advantage of natural light and fresh air. During the design process they regularly commented on how these conditions affected the design and how we could use various spaces within the home. They really listened to us during the walkthrough of our new and existing homes, and used what we shared to design our dream home. They were also well-versed in the constraints of waterfront projects and ensured our design wouldn’t hit snags with the County permitting office.

Another surprise for us was their regular involvement through all phases of the build process. Melanie and/or Paul have been present for every major meeting at the project site and have coordinated closely not only with the builder, but with the window supplier, the kitchen designer, the interior designer and even participated in the lighting design meetings. If I have any questions about any aspect of the project, I am confident that I can reach out to either Melanie or Paul and they will know exactly what is going on.

MKS Architecture is down to earth, honest and just so easy to work with. They bring a great blend of experience from their time at a very in-demand architecture firm in Annapolis, and have built on that experience with better client engagement using the most up-to-date tools on the market to provide great service and a beautifully-designed finished product.
